Learning How to Juggle

Let's see, I'm a mom, a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a full-time employee, a friend, an author, and an editor; how do I know where one starts and one begins?

Easy - I prioritize. I'm a mom first, above all. After that, comes my full-time job - I can't feed my child without a full-time job. Then my family and boyfriend fall in line after that, leaving my writing and editing fighting for last place.

Does that mean I don't enjoy writing? Absolutely not. That just means that I know what takes precedence in my life; for you, that list may look different.

When I write, I want a quiet setting without distractions since I have the attention span of a gnat. If I don't have Addie and I don't have plans with my boyfriend, I sit down and work. If I have Addie, I spend time with her and I wait until after she goes to bed to work on my writing. If I have plans with my boyfriend, I put my writing off until the next day.

My writing career isn't going anywhere - I'm a self-published author and don't have an agent breathing down my neck with deadlines. I write and edit at my own pace.

On the other hand, my editorial documents have deadlines, so they get put before my writing. As of today, I have two active editorial candidates that I'm working with to help get their pieces ready for the world to see. I'm an alpha reader for three other women and I help them as much as I possibly can.

You won't hear me say that I don't have time for my writing or have time for my editing - you make time for the things that are important to you. Countless nights have been spent writing when I should have been sleeping, but I know my time is worth something, so I spend it wisely.

As Rihanna would say - "Work work work work work"
