Meet Rynn Collins!

Hey there! And welcome to my blog!

I've decided that every Wednesday, I'll be featuring a different author here on my page. This week, we'll be kicking it off with the one and only - Rynn Collins.

I'll be asking her a series of questions and posting her answers. Don't forget to check her out on Facebook: www.facebook.com/authorrynncollins

How long have you been writing?

It’s been 84 years….

Kidding, I’ve been writing for about eight years now

What made you want to become a writer?

I used to write fan fiction and then realized I enjoyed it and started dabbling in stories of my own.

Tell me about your current work-in-progress.

Juggling between 2 works on this name – The first is a novella for the Broken Roses Series. A few authors are included in this project. Each story stars a strong female lead who overcomes adversity of some sort. My novella will be about a photographer who uses unconventional ways of overcoming a traumatic life altering event. Each author was assigned a rose color and my color is cerulean. This will be released in 2021.

The other w-i-p is an Erotic Romance Suspense/Mafia style….about a Cuban cartel. The cartel leader is brutal and lays claim to a woman who was smuggled in. Everyone knows not to touch what he deems his. Although, his right hand man has quite an issue with self-control when he begins to desire what he cannot have, and the feeling is mutual. High stakes danger surrounds this forbidden tryst.

What is your writing process like?

All over the place. Sometimes I have a game plan and plot, sometimes I write by the seat of my pants. Some days I have no idea what I’m doing or want to do, some days I’m writing like a boss. I generally get an idea, build around it, sometimes write an outline, start writing and wing it until words flow like water.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

An FBI agent, a lawyer, a doctor, an actress, a singer, and a crime scene investigator. I realize now this was just me wanting to live many lives and I can do that by writing them and living vicariously through my characters.

How many unfinished works do you have right now?

On this name - 2

What advice do you have for other writers?

Don’t ever stop dreaming up new worlds and characters. Don’t stop writing. You have a story to tell – tell it!

What inspires your ideas?

Different things. Sometimes it’s a song, a music video, a dream. They just seem to come to me out of the blue and the more I think about them the more they seem to formulate into actual plots. If the idea strikes and then fizzles out or I don’t continuously think about it, then it wasn’t enough to hook me into writing it.

What is a typical day in your home life?

Work 8-5, mom and wife life, Netflix or Hulu. Think about writing or making promos. Actually write or create said promos or just go back to watching Netflix.

Weekends is mom and wife life, binging again, cleaning and laundry, and then maybe some writing if I’m not out of the house for some reason.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing (for you)?

Getting into the zone. Sometimes it’s fairly easy for me to start writing and then zone out with my fingers flying across the keys. Some days, I stare at the blinking cursor and think about why I started this novel in the first place, set aside and binge watch stuff until the writing bug bites me again. Trying to force it usually results in craptastic writing. The most difficult thing about writing is getting into the flow of it – more specifically, starting the novel. Setting up the scene and world, introducing the characters without a total info dump. Once I’m past that, it’s smooth sailing.

How many hours a day do you spend writing?

On the weekends I can spend up to 5 to 8 hours writing when I’m in the zone. I’m trying to write more often, but lately my muse has been quiet. It seems to have awoken recently and I spent most of Saturday writing. It’s sometimes difficult to write during the week unless I have this burning urge to get something down due to work and mom/wife life. I keep telling myself one day – ONE day I will be a full-time writer and can write all day.

What are your fears as a writer?

That my novels will ultimately suck. That I will never be seen or discovered by new readers. That I don’t have what it takes to promote myself on the business side of independent publishing.

If you had to pick just ONE of your books to be put into a hall of fame – which one would it be and why?

Well, currently on this name (this is my pen name just launched 2020) I only have one story out – a short story in an anthology called Ravenous Fables. Erotic twisted fables, my inspiration was beauty and the beast. It’s called Beastly Desires.

Now, the broken roses novella is definitely going to be a great read I think and from all my plotting I think the Cuban cartel novel will give the novella a run for it’s money.

The why would be because I feel it was a story that has not been told – at least not like I’m telling it.

What’s your favorite ice cream?

Butter pecan, moolinium crunch, and rocky road. 😊 I love ice cream lol
